Catharsis was founded in 1992 by the singer/bassist Adam Mamok and guitarist Daniel Petryczkiewicz in Tychy (Poland), soon joined by Konrad Czerski (drums) and Dariusz Skonieczny (guitar). In this line up the band recorded it’s first compositions on tape – “Your Truth” in 1993. Despite some technical imperfections Catharsis presented the beginnings of their own style, trying to create their original view on death metal. The band continued their development and worked on new songs with new members – Konrad and Dariusz were replaced by drummer Artur Pudło and guitarist Tomasz Świerz. In 1995 Catharsis released their second demo “Bitter Disdain”. Complex compositions with strong technical elements, accompanied by a dose of emotions and melody won a decent amount of fans, so that the band started live performances, supporting bands like Christ Agony or KAT. Then, in 1996 after several line up changes, Catharsis decided to suspend the band’s activity for some time..
Years later, in 2010 Adam and Tomasz decide to revive the band, working on new material and at the same time looking for a new drummer and a guitarist. In 2011 they find a female guitarist Katarzyna ‘Kate’ Bujas, who appears to be the missing part of the band. With some fresh blood in the system, Catharsis continues to look for a drummer. After several unsuccessful attempts, the band decides to take a session musician and their choice is Łukasz ‘Lucass’ Krzesiewicz, drummer of a Polish band Sammath Naur. Lucass fills in the music not only with his perfect technical skills, but also gets the band’s style immediately and completes the songs with complex and sophisticated drum tracks. Catharsis records the new album entitled “Rhyming Life And Death” during a few sessions in Invent Sound Studio (Bydgoszcz, Poland). The album reflects perfectly the new vision of the band’s music – it contains a strong dose of creative technical death metal, with a trace of a modern taste, emotion and melody. The cover art – made by the artist Michał ‘Xaay’ Loranc, known from cooperation with bands like Behemoth, Vader and Nile – matches the concept of the album excellently.
