W ith passionate vocals and a rich velvet tone that caresses the ear UK Singer-Songwriter CHIDI takes you on a musical journey beginning at the first note. Borrowing from the rich traditions of classic Soul music and blending a fusion of Rock Pop and Jazz CHIDI delivers her own brand of UK Soul.
An extremely talented lady comprising a talent that has many classy inferences, such as the likes of Jean Carne, Adriana Evans, the sass of Sunshine Anderson and an edgier grittier vocal aside that would appeal to fans of Tina Turner. Her first foray into music began at her local church. After singing with the church choir for a number of years she then began touring Europe as part of a national choir which gave her more confidence to sing both lead vocals and backup, supporting major Gospel artists such as Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, Kim Burrell, Mary Mary.
As a session singer, she has shared the stage with some big names; James Brown, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Corinne Bailey-Rae, she has played at venues and festivals all over the UK and Europe and is currently one of Gloria Gaynor’s backing singers. With her naturally bubbly nature she displays a natural confidence and competence on stage, which must be attributed to her many years of performing. She has a delightful ability to put her audience at ease and convey the message of a song with great intensity and sincerity.
Her latest offering, a track entitled ‘I Want Love’ currently getting a lot of airplay on BBC Radio 6: Funk & Soul Show is part of a collection of songs from the forthcoming album ‘EXHALE’ (due for release in May 2012) showing her versatility as a Singer/Songwriter. ‘I wanted my fans to see that I have grown and developed in my music but I also wanted to maintain the solid Soul sound that was evident in songs like ‘Laid Back’ and ‘Wrong Again’.
As a Vocal Coach CHIDI coaches her students using the Speech Level Singing (SLS) technique made popular by Grammy Award Winning artists such as Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross. In 2009 after seeing vast improvements in her voice, she was eager to take it further and train to become a teacher.
CHIDI feels that her experience as a working singer gives her great insight into the issues that singers face when choosing singing as a career.
Teaching singers of all levels and ages is a way for her to give back to people who love music just as much as she does.
